What Makes Seaside Charter Schools Different?

Click here to read the core principles of  Seaside Community Charter School's whole-child approach to education.

  • Our standards-based, Public Waldorf inspired curriculum includes an emphasis on the visual arts such as watercolor and form drawing; practical arts including woodworking; handwork such as knitting and sewing and felting using wool roving; opportunities for drama performance in plays and readers' theater; and music. Learning to play a musical instrument postively impacts children's learning in all areas, so instruction in pentatonic recorder begins in first and second grade. Instruction on a string instrument begins in second grade.

  • Our teachers follow traditional Waldorf topics within the Florida Standards framework, with a  focus on nursery rhymes, fairy tales and other traditional songs, stories, and literature in kindergarten; folk tales, fables and legends in first and second grades; and a focus on hero stories and myths in upper grades.  The units integrate other content areas such as math and science and social studies in real-world activities such as building structures or growing class gardens that support environmental stewardship.

  • We offer two foreign languages-- American Sign Language and Spanish.  Our Spanish instruction includes the Sonrisas Spanish curriculum, which is often used in Waldorf schools.

  • Children have recess every day

  • Our highly qualified teachers work with local educators to ensure optimal student learning. They have begun their training in public Waldorf methods and are working toward certification in public Waldorf teaching.
