A nine year old begins to feel him/herself growing up and separating from his/her parents. They feel themselves becoming part of the outer world and grow in their independence.
The need for the child to make their own way in the world is met in the curriculum through the hands-on study of farming, gardening, food preparation, house-building, and making clothes.
With the addition of third grade, we are required to administer the FCAT 2.0 (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test), as with all public schools in the state of Florida. We do not believe that tests are inherently bad and test day will simply be another day, a day to gather a scope of information, not one in which the child’s self-esteem is bound. Our principal and teachers are committed to an active, holistic and inspired by Waldorf approach and will not put undue pressure on our students.
The third grade curriculum will provide content that engages the whole child and activities that enhance growing capacities and a sense of order in a time of internal change.
